Great cooking classes at Whole Foods Bowery →
Check out the culinary program upstairs @ Whole Foods on Bowery. Just took a baking class there which was amazing! Sarah Copeland, a most charming and informative teacher, taught us hands on dough making skills. Or rather, displayed her rather impressive ability to transform flours, butters, oils and sugar/salt into gorgeous flat breads, pie crusts, etc. It was truly a sight to behold,...

i have lived here for over 2.5 years and still haven’t found my go-to chinese spot yet. maybe it is because i lived in SF too long, where great chinese was found on every other block. or maybe it is because i haven’t spent enough time in chinatown yet, but am hoping this does the trick… enjoy Time Out’s top 10.

Master Chef comes to FOX →
American Idol meets Top Chef. or so they are billing it. lord knows i can’t get enough of my food shows, but… i am not a fan of american idol. there i said it. however reveille is behind this jaunt and they have a pretty good track record of reality. so i’m going to reserve my judgement until i see it. and then, let the judgement commence!

Bravo green lights 2nd season of Top Chef Masters →
yes, old news, but as it is a beloved franchise and i adore the producers behind it, am sharing. love this blog posting’s description of host Kelly Choi as shockingly vacuous. could not agree more. why didn’t she go the route of katie lee joel, an equally dull host?
enjoy

and now for the more serious side of food. Carolyn Steel’s TED talk about how food shapes our cities. this is a wee bit long, but one of the impactful take-aways is WE THROW AWAY ALMOST HALF OF THE FOOD PREPARED IN THE US DAILY. this is devestating. :(
yet good for us to become aware of.
become. aware.

BLT Prime tater tots
Apparently the tots are becoming a new culinary trend according to restaurant girl http://www.restaurantgirl.com/
BLT prime seemed to make the cut. So I tried.
They came in a tres adorable teeny cast iron dish. And looked like, well, little stuffed mushrooms or onions. The physical resemblance stopped at the crisped crust. Inside was more like a croquette with a hint o blue cheese. Needed salt....
